The idea of a United States of Europe may send shivers down your spine, as specially as a result of euro skeptic parties, like UKIP and you have real and living issues here, like the rise in population of over 5 million since 2001, according to the office for national statistics. The net increase in population as a result of deaths and births is around 200,000 per annum. Whilst, net migration is 298,000 people. This is a unsustainable level of immigration. However, immigration is not a bad thing. Immigrants add to the U.K economy every year.
However, immigration is not what I wanted to talk about, when I sat down to write this.
The E.U has the worlds largest economy, at €13 529 099.6 million and can stand up to any superpower on the world stage. The E.U is massively influential. Sadly, not always in good ways and could be blamed for starvation in Africa, through import tariffs and heavy subsidization of farms. However, the E.U as a state, as a unified country has the power to be the heavy weight on the world stage, challenging China, the U.S and Russia. If the E.U weren't to unify then we risk loosing our voice on the world stage and this is something too precious to loose.
Further more, the E.U accounts for 16.4% of global imports, leaving the U.S trailing with 15.5% of all imports, and China with 11.9%. As the world largest consumer, we have power to force countries like the U.S and china to work for us and be our toy doll, like the U.S currently treats the U.K.
The EU covers over 4 million km² and has 503 million inhabitants, behind India and China but still a powerful, well educated group of people, that have huge amounts of potential to succeed. Under a European super state these 503 million people would be better represented and get the best trade deals, far better than those that could be obtained by the U.K alone.
Also, the E.U is self supporting. This is key to any self sustaining country. We produce most of our foods that can be grown within the E.U
The E.U boasts some of the largest business' in the world, like JCB and the world largest car manufacturer by output, VOLKSWAGEN. Does this not show the potential of a European super state. Look at the United States, the states within it are weak but together they stand tall as the worlds single superpower. Europe could be this. UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL and this comes true, when talking about the potential of Europe.
